Step inside the headquarters of BCBGMAXAZRIA and the first reaction is one of pleasant surprise. The industrial-appearing exterior hides spacious, high-ceilinged showrooms, offices and design studios. Recently remodeled for the company’s 25th anniversary, the building reflects the creativity and energy that is trademark BCBG.
Our gracious host Lubov Azria, a new Trusteeship member and wife of BCBGMAXAZRIA founder Max Azria, led us through a fascinating retrospective of the company’s beginnings in 1987 and its phases of growth to its present status as one of America’s leading design houses.
Lubov kept us interested with anecdotes about how she and Max met (when she applied for a job, he hired her instantly!) and how the corporate name came about (from the French phrase “bon chic, bon genre,” a Parisian slang term meaning “good style, good attitude”). We had a close-up look at the design process from idea to paper pattern to mock-up and finished product.
After viewing the fabulous creations, Lubov showed us to the on-site boutique where dresses, separates, accessories, coats—many characterized the familiar bright blocks of color that BCBG is known for—were for sale.
Fashion, shopping, a lovely hosts, friendly faces and refreshments enjoyed in the beautifully remodeled showroom—who could ask for anything more?
