The Trusteeship

November 2023

Hello and Happy November,

November is the month of gratitude and in today’s crazy world we can still find much to be grateful for.

I am grateful for our Trusteeship sisters and all of the lovely times we share with each other.

This past month we were able to share a wonderful event at the Huntington Library. Thank you to Huntington Library President, Karen Lawrence, Lisa See, and Nikki Clay for the amazing tour and exclusive behind the scenes preview of Shôya house.

We were treated to an evening at Kathy Checchi’s beautiful home to meet IWF CEO, Stephanie O’Keeffe who sheared the vision for IWF Global. And we heard from two IWF fellows, Laurie Leshin (now a Trusteeship member) and Mo Vakili about how the fellows program impacted their lives and careers. Thanks to Karen Caplan for arranging and Kathy Checchi for hosting us.

Twelve Trusteeship members traveled to “Motown” to see “What’s goin on” at the IWF Leadership Conference kicked off by Governor Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan.

Ann Reiss Lane held a fun Dine Around at her beautiful home.

Thanks to Billie Greer, we were special guests of The Actors Gang project. It was a very moving evening for all of us!

I want to thank everyone who took the survey, we had a fantastic response. We will be moving forward in 2024 with programs and events that reflect your input.

Next month we will have our annual holiday gatherings. Make sure you sign up to participate. And anyone who would like to host, please let us know.

I wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving

I am grateful for you!

It’s time to renew your Membership!

2024 Membership Renewal is due

by November 15th, 2023

Similar to past years, the dues renewal process will take place online. Click on the “Pay Dues” link below to renew and pay by credit card (no checks, please, as we’ve gone paperless). We strongly encourage “auto renew” which will keep your credit card on file and automatically charge you each year on the dues renewal date. For all members that are currently on “auto renew”, and those that select auto renew this year, (and pay on time by November 15th), we will discount the 2024 annual dues of $750 by $50. Our intention is to incent as many members as possible to keep their credit card info on file so registration to events and any associated member costs can be processed through our website.

Pay Dues

Note: If you live outside of Southern CA and pay annual dues of $375, you will receive a $25 reduction in dues if you select auto renew and pay on time.

40 new IWF Leadership Fellows

IWF Global announced the 2023-2024 Leadership Fellows class.

Meet them here.

Forty diverse and highly accomplished leaders hail from 13 countries: Afghanistan, Australia, Bahamas, Brazil, Canada, Jamaica, Jordan, Mexico, Trinidad and Tobago, South Africa, Ukraine, the United States and, for the first time, Pakistan.

  • Other firsts: This year’s class includes an Olympian, a senior leader of a symphony and a participant of Australian First Nations descent.

Why it matters: The Leadership Fellows Program is a powerful way IWF delivers on our mission of advancing women’s leadership.

  • The best-in-class program helps high-potential women hone skills to fulfill their full potential. There are week-long leadership training sessions with Harvard and INSEAD, mentoring with IWF members, and global networking opportunities at IWF World Leadership Conferences.

What’s next: IWF Global CEO Stephanie O’Keefe’s goal is to double the size of the Leadership Fellows Program over the next five years.

IWF Global encourages every Forum to participate by recruiting or sponsoring a Fellow.

Gabrielle Bullock

Gabrielle was featured in SoCal Design for her latest project, Destination Crenshaw, representing the culmination of her mission to transform the architectural profession.

Gabrielle Bullock, principal and director of global diversity at Perkins&Will, leads the design and architecture team developing Destination Crenshaw in collaboration with landscape architect Studio-MLA and exhibition designer Gallagher & Associates. Bullock has long considered herself a change agent working to challenge the status quo in the architectural profession—a calling that came at a very young age. “I’ve been determined to harness the power of design to impact lives since I was 12,” she says.

Barbara Gothard

Barbara released: the official art catalogue Contradictions – Bringing The Past Forward: An Art & Humanities Installation by Barbara Gothard.

Barbara’s three-year creative odyssey culminated in a solo exhibition of her installation, Contradictions – Bringing The Past Forward, that visually interprets and honors the legacy of twenty-three African American Homesteaders who settled in the Far Eastern Mojave Desert in the early twentieth century, in the context of my own lived experience as an African American woman artist in the Palm Springs/Mojave Desert area. And the catalogue is the last phase of this journey.

Upcoming IWF Conferences

IWF 50th Anniversary World Leadership Conference

At the World Leadership Conference and Gala, May 15-17, 2024 in New York, NY, IWF will highlight 50 years of women changing the world. Registration to open soon.

Over five decades, the International Women’s Forum and our members have been at the forefront of change – breaking the glass ceiling across professions around the world, proving not only that women lead but women lead differently, and gender balance at every level of leadership makes stronger business, stronger societies, and a better world.

In recent years the velocity of change, especially driven by technology, has impacted every country and every sector. It’s only fitting that our 50th Anniversary Conference address change and how women at the top are making change a force for good.

This conference will focus on key sectors that—like IWF—have strong roots in New York but are global forces for change themselves. . .

  • Technology
  • Health
  • Media

It will also examine how more women at the top are managing change in the workplace and the social agenda for gender equality.

Finally, we will explore the business of fashion – how we have evolved from men telling women what to wear to women changing what we buy, how we buy and how we express our beliefs about ourselves and our world in how we present ourselves.

“The Trusteeship is a wonderful refuge — a place to go that is safe, nurturing and supportive. A place where you can suspend time — where the pressures and demands of your daily routine become secondary to the sharing of confidences and passions with women that walk similar paths and know your challenges and triumphs.”

– Rita
